Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using Lite Tuition, creating an account, or starting a campaign, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

You must accept these Terms before you can create an account or start a campaign. Where we ask you to check a box or click to accept, doing so has the same legal effect as your signature.

Age requirements and parental consent

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to create your own account and accept these Terms.

If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must create and manage the account, review and accept these Terms on your behalf, and supervise the campaign. By accepting, that parent or guardian agrees to be responsible for the account, the campaign, and compliance with these Terms.

We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts. Where a campaign benefits a student under 13, such as a child at a tuition-based school, a parent or legal guardian must set it up and run it. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle information relating to minors.

Eligibility and accounts

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your account credentials secure, and for all activity that happens under your account. You agree to give true, current, and complete information and to keep it up to date.

Campaigns and fundraising

When you create a campaign, you are responsible for the accuracy of everything in it and for using any funds raised toward the educational purpose described. You may have one active campaign at a time; once a campaign closes, you may start a new one. Lite Tuition does not guarantee that a campaign will reach its goal.

A campaign may be a Standard campaign, where you choose the school at the outset, or an Education Savings campaign, which may be started without a school, for example by a high school senior who has not yet decided. In both cases, no funds are released until a school has been selected. When funds are released, they go to the school the student selects, in care of the student, in support of their education. They are not paid out to the student or the campaign creator as cash.

When a campaign closes, the student, or their parent or guardian, must complete a release form with the school and enrollment details so the funds can be sent to the institution. If the student is not enrolled at the named institution when the funds are to be released, the funds, less any expenses already incurred, may be refunded to the contributors. If the student changes schools before the funds are released, a new release form with the new institution's information is required.

We may review, and where necessary remove or suspend, campaigns that violate these Terms or applicable law.

Contributions, fees, and payments

Contributions are processed by third-party payment providers. A small processing fee applies to each contribution and is taken at the time of the gift. A contributor may choose to cover that fee so the full amount goes toward the campaign, or the fee is deducted from the contribution.

Contributions are gifts made in support of a student's education. They are not loans, and there is nothing for the student to repay. Contributions are generally non-refundable, except as required by law, as stated at the time of giving, or as described above when funds cannot be released to an institution.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the platform for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose, and not to misrepresent yourself, infringe others' rights, or interfere with the operation of our services.

Your content and the rights you grant us

You keep ownership of the photos, videos, text, and other materials you submit, which we call Your Content.

By submitting Your Content, you grant Lite Tuition a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, and sublicensable license to host, store, use, reproduce, adapt, publish, publicly display, and distribute Your Content, including the images and video within it, in connection with operating, improving, and promoting Lite Tuition. This includes using Your Content on our website, in sample or featured campaigns, and in marketing, social media, and other promotional materials. This license continues, for these purposes, even after a campaign closes or your account is closed, to the extent reasonably needed for our records, backups, and uses already made.

You represent that you own or have all rights necessary to grant this license, and that you have the consent of anyone who appears or is identifiable in Your Content, or that person's parent or guardian if they are a minor, to use it as described. If you would rather a particular image or video not be used in our marketing, do not include it in your campaign, and you may contact us to ask us to stop a specific promotional use.

Intellectual property

The Lite Tuition name, logo, and platform are the property of Lite Tuition and protected by applicable laws. You may not use them without our prior written permission.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The platform is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lite Tuition is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the services.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will change the date shown above, and for material changes we may ask you to accept the revised Terms. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
